Even though HAMID CIRCUS, INC.’S Vice President and Production Manager James M. Hamid, Jr. is at home in front of a computer keyboard or behind the controls of a mixing board or laser light panel, he still fondly recalls the time as a boy when his Dad would take him to visit the family circus on tour.
“The clowns used to put make-up on me and allow me to walk with them in the opening spec or wave to the crowd during Finale. I recognized then, as I do today, there is something special about bringing smiles to audience’s faces,” Hamid, Jr. said.
During his high school vacations, James, Jr. worked in all phases of the family business from circus roustabout to floor manager to executive, to becoming the youngest State Fair manager in the history of the United States at 24. James, Jr., is now acutely aware of all the minute details that go into the production of the two-hour family oriented spectacular.
This fourth generation showman can be seen in the circus arenas everyday making sure there are plenty of circus smiles to go around. James served on the Board of Directors of the Outdoor Amusement Business Association’s Circus Unit, has been President of the George A. Hamid Tent # 109, Southern New Jersey’s chapter of the Circus Fans of America for the last seven years, a member of the Circus Historical Society, a member of Burlington Lodge #66 F. & A.M., a member of Arab Shrine Temple and is an honorary member of Kalurah Shrine Temple. He lives in Egg Harbor Township, NJ. with his wife, Shirley, and two children, Belinda and James, III.
